What is OWWA?
Ontario Water Works Association, Strategic Plan 2009-2014
I. VISION
The Ontario Water Works Association will be the leading resource dedicated to safe, sufficient, and sustainable water from source to tap.
II. MISSION STATEMENT
The Ontario Water Works Association is a voluntary organization of water professionals, dedicated to protecting public health through the delivery of safe, sufficient, and sustainable drinking water in Ontario. The Ontario Water Works Association provides leadership in water management through education, innovation, continual improvements in customer relations, science and technology, and by participating in the development of government policy.
The vision and mission statements will be implemented by the following: (Note that these items are of equal importance). The named committees will take the lead on the particular item, and will collaborate extensively with others as appropriate.
III. GOALS
A. MEMBERSHIP AND RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT
- Develop a marketing plan to ensure a sustainable membership.
- Ensure the sustainability of directors and committee chairs, by active succession planning throughout the association.
- Grow membership by 1% (net) for each of the next 5 years.
- Increase retention to more than 90% each year.
B. PROVIDE TAILORED AND INNOVATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAMS
- Provide informative and current seminars and workshops on regulatory, technical, and emerging issues, to be tailored to the type of audience and geographic location. Each committee identified by the Board of Directors should provide at least one seminar per year and should be encouraged to provide additional seminars if there is demand and available support from other committees.
- Provide training opportunities, including that for certification, at the annual conference and the area conferences.
- Explore technologies to provide seminars and workshops remotely to increase access across the Province.
C. PARTICIPATE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF REGULATORY POLICY
- Initiate and enhance OWWA’s relationships with agencies involved with OWWA’s mission and mandate.
- Proactive involvement with working groups and advisory committees involved in issues impacting OWWA members.
D. PROMOTE WATER STEWARDSHIP TO ENSURE SAFE, SUFFICIENT AND SUSTAINABLE DRINKING WATER IN ONTARIO
- Create a presentation geared to students to increase their exposure to careers in the industry and guide them in their choice of post-secondary education.
- Promote the environmental benefits of water efficiency throughout Ontario by education and the promotion of regulations.
- Influence the development of targets and requirements under the various Great Lakes initiatives to ensure it remains a source for safe, sufficient and sustainable drinking water.
E. STRENGTHEN OUR RECOGNITION AS THE LEADING AUTHORITY ON DRINKING WATER
- Ensure that the approved communications plan/study encompasses promotion, both internally and externally, that OWWA is the leading authority and resource in drinking water.
- Develop the website to provide enhanced service to the public and members, in accordance with the Communications Plan.
