Cross Connection Control By-Laws - Examples

Purpose


  • To liaise between OWWA and educational institutions in Ontario offering Back Flow Prevention courses
  • To endorse accreditation of educational institutions offering certification
  • To endorse certification of Cross Connection Control Specialists who have successfully completed approved courses
  • To identify and research existing or potential conflicts between plumbing codes and good backflow prevention
  • To provide education to the drinking water industry on back flow prevention
  • To participate at the National level on the Canadian Cross Connection Control Steering Committee.

Composition

The committee shall be comprised of a broad cross section of members with an interest in backflow prevention, including water purveyors, regulators, equipment suppliers, consultants, educators and other interested parties. In addition to the Chair and Vice Chair, a Certification Officer should be appointed to be the key liaison with local educational institutions.

 

Meetings

The committee should meet three (3) times per year, with at least one face-to-face meeting prior to the Canadian Cross Connection Control Steering Committee meeting.

 

Potential Activity Areas


  • Collaborate with other members of the Canadian Cross Connection Control Steering Committee to keep current a list of examination questions and procedures for use by accredited educational institutions
  • Create questions relative to local codes and conditions for use by local educational institutions
  • Visit and evaluate educational institutions requesting teaching status and report findings to the committee
  • Identify minimum training requirements (academic, curriculum, laboratory and performance requirements
  • Create written and practical examinations
  • Recommend actions to OWWA to overcome existing or potential conflicts between codes and good backflow prevention
  • Target and solicit items for Ontario Pipeline, training and technical presentations
  • Prepare news and updates from the committee

The committee will communicate with and monitor the following groups:

  • AWWA Cross Connection Control Steering Committee
  • AWWA Standards Council
  • Canadian Cross Connection Control Steering Committee
  • OWWA Distribution Committee
  • OWWA Training & Certification Committee
  • Provincial Cross Connection Control Committees
  • Any other group, agency or association that is relevant
